Research Mission

To understand the processes controlling water quality and nutrient/contaminant cycling, inclusive of plant uptake.

We examine the coupled chemical, biological, and hydrological processes controlling the cycling of elements ranging from arsenic to carbon to iron and uranium within soils and sediment.  Two of our goals are to understand the extent and pathways by which metal contaminants enter our food and water.  Our third goal is to decipher controls on soil carbon cycling to improve prediction of global carbon budgets, and potential management practices to limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
