Research Trip to the groundwater basin of Orange County, CA

Randall Holmes, Sarah Fakhreddine, and Rob Rossi just completed a sediment sampling expedition within the groundwater basin of Orange County, CA.  The stratigraphy was examine and samples collected to a depth of 1105 feet during the drilling of a new monitoring well in order to examine (bio)geochemical and hydrological triggers that could release naturally-occurring arsenic.  The emphasis here is to ensure the toxin does not enter the water system. Our work is conducted in conjunction with Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System, the world’s largest advanced treatment system for potable reuse.
